Junior Jamming with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Deakin Edge, Fed Square Melbourne

Working full time means that weekends are the days we get to take baby D out for some fun in the park, at the shops, in the backyard or at music jams. This term we’ve been enjoying Saturday mornings at Mini Maestros and last month the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra had their own jam session. Held at the gorgeous, 0pen space at Deakin Edge, Fed Square, 7 musicians and an engaging conductor took the kids through a musical journey. Suites from Peer Gynt were beautifully played right in front of us with the little ones getting in on the act shaking, clapping and dinging their percussion pieces!

The kids learnt how to use their castanets, tambourines, maracas, bells and triangles at different volumes and tempos and even got to stomp loud and strong for the finale number. Afterwards, the kids had a meet and greet with the musicians.

Such elegant music live for us to hear and be part of. I definitely would recommend this to all parents as a must-do activity to share with their kids. It is a free program however places have booked up fast so check out MSO’s website to put your name down for the wait list and for future events next year.
