Seafood chowder and a fiery platter at the Lazy Lobster

The Lazy Lobster
300 Marine Parade, Labrador, QLD

On our recent trip to the Gold Coast for the Problogger conference, we decided that on our last night in beautiful Queensland we wanted a seafood platter. After checking out the places nearby and not finding anything that stood out to us, we turned to Google for help and found ourselves at The Lazy Lobster. We wanted to enjoy a meal out and not have to clean any dishes or pots and pans so off we drove to Labrador, just a few minutes away from Caville ave.

Luckily we had made a booking as the restaurant was packed by the time we got there just after 6pm. We had a cozy table complete with a high chair for Madison.

We ordered
Seafood chowder – The Lazy Lobster’s famous seafood chowder served in a soup cob with a jumbo Tiger prawn and mussels. (The kids loved the soft bread and tearing it apart to dip in the soup. I felt like I really needed to get to a gym after devouring this whole entrée!)

Eye Fillet Carpaccio – Finely sliced eye fillet dressed with capers and a parmesan citrus dressing

Lobster Mornay (whole) – Cooked WA lobster in cheesy mornay sauce topped with parmesan (Our lobster was also served with rice and was really filling and tasty. Really hit the spot after a day of walking around and swimming)

Hot & Cold Seafood Platter for 2 – half a lobster with prawns, crab, oysters, fish, calamari, scallops, chunky chips and seasonal fruits (This platter made an impressive entrance to our table with a flame lighting up the top of the seafood and a beautiful arrangement of the seafood. The kids loved all the fruit on this platter!)

Spaghetti Napoli from the kids menu – We thought they had brought out the wrong order as Mr D’s bowl of Napoli spaghetti looked more like it was the plain spaghetti menu item  due to the lack of sauce. It wasn’t a surprise to us that even though Mr D normally eats everything we give him, he hardly touched his meal this time around 🙁

The Details
This restaurant is one of a few located along Marine Parade. We had booked about half an hour before we arrived which was just as well as it seemed like a popular spot for both families and people going on dates with the waitresses having to turn away some walk-in patrons.
The meals we ordered certainly filled us up and I think the seafood platter could’ve been fit for 4! Our meals took so long to arrive that we were almost thinking of even cancelling our order but we had seen this same comment about the service on all the restaurant review sites so we thought we’d just put up with it and wait. The staff were friendly however I think we’ll try another place next time we’re in town.
Overall we had a nice time relaxing and grazing through our meals. Good company really accounts for a lot when going out to dinner and it was so lovely we got to spend time with my brother and his the beautiful ladies in his life! 🙂
