I can’t believe it’s already been six years of taking over the DanceZone at the iconic St Kilda Festival. This year our special guests were Mute Crew doing their special collab with Collektive and Kstar. We had a half hour slot from 5.30-6pm and it was so great dancing with the crew again and being able to give other dance crews of Melbourne to share their skills.

There’s always such a great atmosphere and an awesome crowd at St Kilda Fest It gets pretty crowded but the DanceZone area is always spacious and close to the different stage acts, food stalls and beach.

Thinking Out Loud

I’ve been listening to this song all week on the way to and from work and was only able to watch the clip to it now – such a cool surprise to see that the choreography was by the super talented couple Tabitha and Napoleon!!! Their musicality and ability to turn sound into beautiful movement is effortless.

On a side not, if you want to see some amazing talent in dance, coming up real soon on Saturday November 29th are the 2014 Australian Dance Crew Championship finals!! Tabitha and Napoleon have been previous judges of the event that which features urban and hip hop dance crews from around Australia.

#ADCC2014 finals will be held at the Melbourne Town Hall so if you want to feel inspired and want to check out the hottest dance talent in Oz, be sure to get your tickets here now! You do not want to miss the latest showcases and  unparalelled talent of MC Philly who be hosting the finals this year.

Check out previous posts here and here to see the explosive dance crews who will be bringing their passion, hours of rehearsals, and their talent to the ADCC stage!

The Urban Ma weekend Oct 2014

Last weekend was so much fun! Here’s what we got up to 🙂

Ain’t nothing like a Wonderland party!

My goddaughter and cute little brother had their joint 1st and 7th birthday held at Wonderland Fun Park in the Docklands. There was an abundance of food, lollies, cake and rides! It was such a perfect day for it too – sunshine and friends all around. Daniel got to ride on the 3 toddler-friendly rides but spent a lot of time watching the dodgem cars wishing he could go for a spin on them 🙁 Don’t worry buddy, you’ll get to go on them next year! More pics here!

Rewind Dance Crew at Passion’s End of Year Concert

With some time to rest in between, we dropped Daniel off at mum’s house for a sleepover while we made our way back into the city for the Passion Dance Studio End of Year Showcase at Hi Fi Bar and Ballroom. It was a proud night for studio owner Vincent Calingasan as he watched all his students take the stage with enthusiasm and confidence. It was also such an exciting for me as I got to share the stage again with fellow mumma Susie and soon-to-be mumma Chaz! So grateful to be part of such a loving dance family. If you want to learn some dance moves and be part of the next concert you can! Click here for more info.

Kids Day Out – Errington Reserve

After a nice sleep in until almost midday (that hasn’t happened in a while!), we took Daniel to Kids Day Out at Errington. We missed this amazing event last year so this year we made sure we didn’t miss all the free rides, face painting, activities and performances. We also dug into some good food truck dishes from Big Cook Little Cook. I’ll post more about the event this week so stay tuned!

If you have any favourite places to visit or things to do, let me know – I’m always on the look out for new experiences to share with the fam 🙂

xx

merry go roundDaniel absolutely LOVED going on the rides at Wonderland! Loved seeing him so happy 🙂

Move more, nourish your body

Lyle and Matt workshop

JT Dancers Workshop at Passion Studio
1/594 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne

After listening to one of Michael Hyatt’s recent podcasts (Slay your Dragons before Breakfast), attending a conference in the Gold Coast, taking part in the Steptember Challenge and not fitting into a few of my work clothes (eeek!) I have been wanting to get back into the studio for some good old dance love.

I love the feeling of being surrounded by happy, active people. It always makes me feel so energized and inspired to just enjoy movement and music. I don’t think we were made to just sit and watch tv or lounge around, which don’t get me wrong, is totally what I need and crave sometimes! But sometimes it’s just getting up and being active gives you that thrilling rush. Whether you like to dance, run, surf, ski, ride, walk it doesn’t matter. Anything that gets your body moving will benefit your body, mind and soul. Last night was definitely no exception at the workshops of Lyle Beniga and Matt Aylward who are down in Australia for JT’s concert.

I missed out on the first class due to mummy duties but thankfully my wonderful sis was able to look after D so I made it to the second class. Even just by standing there watching and listening to the choreographers, you learn so much. It’s getting me more and more excited for this year’s ADCC finals in November (tickets available on Moshtix).

Hope everyone can make it down to MOD tonight for the second lot of classes this time with Lyle and Ivan Koumaev. Last night it was a full house at Passion Studios so make sure you get in early! See Triple8Funk here for more info.

What gets your body moving? And if you do like to walk or run, let me know where! – I can always use some new places to see 🙂

Happy hump day everyone!

This is the routine Matt taught last night. Super fun! Thanks so much Matt! Subscribe. Like. Comment!

Check out Lyle’s channel for more amazingness. Subscribe. Like. Comment!

And finally got to meet and watch Ivan dance live. Here’s a clip of one of his pieces from SYTYCD awhile back now from Season 2 with Alison

We are so blessed to be able to take class and enjoy dance. There are many others who don’t get that same opportunity. If you would like to help those with cerebal palsy I am currently completing the Steptember Challenge with some work colleagues. Cerebal Palsy is a physical disability that affects a person’s body movement and their muscle coordination, balance and control. See here if you would like to help our team out or find out more information.

Teaming up with DG and Dancekool Studios this year UEG Events hosted the Australian Dance Crew Championships in Sydney with a twist – the Super Eight Battles were weaved in between the entertaining dance crew showcases and competition numbers! It always make me feel happy inside watching all the kids and the young at heart giving their all on stage. Dance moves me, no matter what genre and last Sunday no exception.

Wow. These ladies and gents are just as charismatic, in sync and totally jaw dropping as they are when you watch them on YouTube. Totally missing Rewind right now after watching the phenomenal Choreo Cookies on stage last Sunday night.

Congrats to all the crews who performed on the stage. Loved the energy, passion and talent.
