Thinking Out Loud

I’ve been listening to this song all week on the way to and from work and was only able to watch the clip to it now – such a cool surprise to see that the choreography was by the super talented couple Tabitha and Napoleon!!! Their musicality and ability to turn sound into beautiful movement is effortless.

On a side not, if you want to see some amazing talent in dance, coming up real soon on Saturday November 29th are the 2014 Australian Dance Crew Championship finals!! Tabitha and Napoleon have been previous judges of the event that which features urban and hip hop dance crews from around Australia.

#ADCC2014 finals will be held at the Melbourne Town Hall so if you want to feel inspired and want to check out the hottest dance talent in Oz, be sure to get your tickets here now! You do not want to miss the latest showcases and  unparalelled talent of MC Philly who be hosting the finals this year.

Check out previous posts here and here to see the explosive dance crews who will be bringing their passion, hours of rehearsals, and their talent to the ADCC stage!

Move more, nourish your body

Lyle and Matt workshop

JT Dancers Workshop at Passion Studio
1/594 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne

After listening to one of Michael Hyatt’s recent podcasts (Slay your Dragons before Breakfast), attending a conference in the Gold Coast, taking part in the Steptember Challenge and not fitting into a few of my work clothes (eeek!) I have been wanting to get back into the studio for some good old dance love.

I love the feeling of being surrounded by happy, active people. It always makes me feel so energized and inspired to just enjoy movement and music. I don’t think we were made to just sit and watch tv or lounge around, which don’t get me wrong, is totally what I need and crave sometimes! But sometimes it’s just getting up and being active gives you that thrilling rush. Whether you like to dance, run, surf, ski, ride, walk it doesn’t matter. Anything that gets your body moving will benefit your body, mind and soul. Last night was definitely no exception at the workshops of Lyle Beniga and Matt Aylward who are down in Australia for JT’s concert.

I missed out on the first class due to mummy duties but thankfully my wonderful sis was able to look after D so I made it to the second class. Even just by standing there watching and listening to the choreographers, you learn so much. It’s getting me more and more excited for this year’s ADCC finals in November (tickets available on Moshtix).

Hope everyone can make it down to MOD tonight for the second lot of classes this time with Lyle and Ivan Koumaev. Last night it was a full house at Passion Studios so make sure you get in early! See Triple8Funk here for more info.

What gets your body moving? And if you do like to walk or run, let me know where! – I can always use some new places to see 🙂

Happy hump day everyone!

This is the routine Matt taught last night. Super fun! Thanks so much Matt! Subscribe. Like. Comment!

And finally got to meet and watch Ivan dance live. Here’s a clip of one of his pieces from SYTYCD awhile back now from Season 2 with Alison

We are so blessed to be able to take class and enjoy dance. There are many others who don’t get that same opportunity. If you would like to help those with cerebal palsy I am currently completing the Steptember Challenge with some work colleagues. Cerebal Palsy is a physical disability that affects a person’s body movement and their muscle coordination, balance and control. See here if you would like to help our team out or find out more information.

Wow. These ladies and gents are just as charismatic, in sync and totally jaw dropping as they are when you watch them on YouTube. Totally missing Rewind right now after watching the phenomenal Choreo Cookies on stage last Sunday night.

Congrats to all the crews who performed on the stage. Loved the energy, passion and talent.

I can’t wait to see what Baby D’s passion will be when he grows up!

2014 Australian Dance Crew Championships

Dance the school holidays away with the 2014 Australian Dance Crew Championships Melbourne Prelims
Presented UEG Events – Saturday 5th of July 2pm
Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Albert Park

Energy, entertainment and highly passionate dancers will be competing tomorrow at the Melbourne prelims for the 2014 Australian Dance Crew Championships which will be held at MSAC in Albert Park. I can’t wait for Toddler D to see all the talented crews from the juniors (7yo) through to the open age dancers. Daniel already loves to bop along to his favourite tunes (which at the moment is still Happy by Pharrell) so hopefully he’ll get excited by all the action tomorrow!

Tickets will be sold at the door so come along and support these dancers who have put in the long hours and rehearsal time doing something they love. Meanwhile check out the video above to get a feel for what will be on offer tomorrow, Saturday 5th of July. See you there!

The Jabbawockeez in Melbourne

Thought I’d post up a dance related entry for #tbt this week instead of a travel related one just to mix things up a little! 🙂 The legendary Jabbawockeez held a one night only show in Melbourne in September 2009. It was so amazing to see them create magic on stage interpreting music through dance. Rewind performed as a front act and after the show we partied it up at Eve night club. It’s so inspiring to see a crew still dancing together after all these years and keepin’ it fresh!

And while we’re on the topic of dance, Rewind is starting off 2013 with appearances this weekend at the Chinese New Year celebrations in Richmond and next month at the huge annual St Kilda Fest! Our Facebook page is linked on the right so click “like” to keep up to date 🙂

a dance crew’s playground – October ’11 photo set

It was a dance crew’s playground in October ’11 with the likes of choreographers and dancers such as Jun Quemado (AHC2011 finals judge), Brian Puspos, Pat Lam, Andye J, Keone & Mari and JP San Pedro (Janet Jackson back up dancer) rockin’ Melbourne city. I was so excited to learn from all these amazingly talented people and hope to see them again…soon!

Which choreographer would you like to learn from here in Melbourne?

Circa 2003 – Rewind Reclaim Photo Set

Came across these photos today on my hard drive…a time when there was no Youtube, no Facebook and nowhere to watch dance but Video Hits, Rage and the music award shows that were shown on tv whilst we eagerly had our fingers on “record” in order to save them.
These photos show a time when there were only a few dance crews in the scene. Melbourne, and Australia for that matter is so blessed now to have so many events & classes where anyone with a passion for dance can take part and express themselves in a safe an encouraging environment. Thank you Rewind for such an unbelievable journey – let’s keep it alive <3
