Life Lately #5 – Springtime sunshine

anniversary roses The Urban MaIMG_0890

You wouldn’t have picked it from today’s rainy antics but along with the glistening rain, we’ve also already been able to enjoy quite a few days of glorious sunshine here in Melbourne as spring returns. As usual we did a lot of eating, playing and exploring and I also got to meet and catch up with some fellow Melbourne bloggers.  Lately I’ve also gotten the hang of making sure I purposefully close off some days on my calendar so I can just breathe and just…be! Instead of saying yes to every single thing, I have been able to say no leaving me more time to spend doing things I really like. My little Baby D has also recently been sick with his first real cold and this, plus his teething had me suffering from sleep deprivation and exhaustion. Thankfully Baby D has gotten back into the swing of things and is now sleeping quite well again.

Here are some things we got up to in the recent weeks!:

– 1st birthdays galore (post coming up soon on our friend’s dress up party!),
– bloggers events see here, here and here,
Culture Mamas Go Go dancing event (so much fun and I was sweating by the end of it!),
– eating out (Flower Drum, Trailer Park food trucks, Lil Nomnoms food truck, the Winter night market at Vic Market, truffles in Footscray at Guerilla Espresso), Burger Culture)
– also tried cooking pho at home for the first time but I think next time I’ll use stock to lift the flavour a little more!
– attended the open day at Passion Dance Studio and did a KPop dance class!
– celebrated our wedding anniversary and finally got to try Mamasita (we were baby-free for the night, hence the opportunity to wait in line for places that don’t take bookings)
– attended the launch night of council Leadership Alumni and had a lovely night networking with people passionate about making a difference in the community
– attended a Motivating Mum and SheSays event (I love meeting and learning from an array of motivated individuals),
– lots of family time and celebrating Wes’ first fathers day!
– took the dogs to Lort Smith Animal Hospital for a check up (two dogs and a baby in one car equals headache!!)
– did a “little” bit of shopping! (see post here, here and here)
– watched Baby D grow more confident in standing on his own, clapping his hands , pointing to objects we ask about and listened to him turn into a lovely little chatterbox! 🙂

So thankful for life’s everyday blessings -xx-

What everyday blessings are you thankful for?

Target Style Ambassador Gok Wan at The Point Albert Park
Aquatic Drive, Albert Park Lake

The first week of spring in Melbourne is here and I started it off by having a drink or two at a The Point situated on the iconic Albert Park lake. With the sun shining and sailboats gliding across the water I was thrilled to be spending the afternoon with fellow bloggers and Target’s bold and beautiful style ambassador Gok Wan.

Gok has had a highly successful series of tv shows, a fabulous cookbook and many other achievements including filming documentaries like “Too Fat, Too Young” to increase awareness of a range of issues in our society. It’s so great to see Target teaming up with such a positive and vibrant personality.

Target on trend

During the event we were taken through the new lines for Target’s Hot Options, Free Fusion and MAXX by Target’s buyers and designers. You’d be pleased to hear that within the coming months whilst still providing awesome bargains and great quality pieces, Target will be focusing on providing us with more fashion driven, on-trend pieces straight from the catwalk. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. This iconic, Australian department store will truly be the place where everyone person who walks in will walk away with a must-have!

Gok’s Top 5 Must-Haves

Speaking of must-haves, Gok described his top 5 as:

1) straight leg indigo jeans with a slight lean to western
2) a classic twill, good quality white shirt
3) a good pair of flats
4) a disconnected, deconstructed type blazer that you can dress up or down depending on the occasion and,
5) a good pair of 7/8’s i.e. between a capri and cigarette type bottom

I loved how Gok put so much detail and description into every topic he spoke about. This guy knows his stuff. Having achieved so much and being so good at what he does, I think for many, Gok is most well-known as the person that allows people to see their body in a more positive light, helping build their confidence in their self image. What a perfect ambassador for Target! I am so thrilled I had the chance to spend the afternoon with him. Next blog post will be my shopping haul so stay tuned! Meanwhile below are some of my picks from Target’s online store based on Gok’s must-haves – can you tell that I love black and white?

Comfy Ma – OOTD

IMG_9706IMG_9702IMG_9701

This is my go-to comfy combo – leggings, a baggy jumper and knee high boots Add a big chunky scarf and you’re all set for Melbourne’s cooler days ahead. Sorry for the disheveled hair and scrunchy jumper but with Baby at the teething stage, it’s been a hectic night of no sleep and sore gums leaving no energy or time to even comb my hair, yikes! Had to hide the bags under my eyes with some nice sunnies from Forever New 🙂 No excuses for the next ootd post though.

Hope you’re all having a great week so far and on this day off let us pause to remember the sacrifices of those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who died in World War I.

Weekend Wear

Wes1Wes1bWes1a

Zara, jacket, H&M scarf, Zara knit, H&M dropcrotch pants, Michael Kors watch, thrifted sunnies

For the transition from summer to autumn and to help keep up with the infamous Melbourne weather, a scarf and drape jacket does the trick. Comfortable, unassuming and put together. Love this look that the better half wore last weekend when the sun shone, the rain fell and the wind blew all in one day.

Tips for Girls – How to decide if you should buy it

Ok so I’ve been going to the library lately with baby for their Baby Bounce session and have now started to borrow books again! I had forgotten how much I loved reading and now have a whole pile of books ready for me to consume, oh and one for baby lol! One of the lighter books I borrowed was “Top tip for girls” by Kate Reardon so I thought that it might be fun to share some tips with you anything from boys, to clothing, to household things etc!

Lately I’ve been so bad with shopping and feel like I am constantly buying things that I don’t necessarily need so here are a couple of tips I found in the first few pages 🙂

Only buy clothes that make you want to do a small dance in the change room! – benjizoot

Just because they make it in your size it does not mean you should wear it – vancouvergirl

How do you decide if you should buy something or leave it at the store and save you wallet a swiping!?

Fashion Fridays – Hey Mr DJ OOTD

IMG_9908IMG_9882IMG_9884IMG_9895

Hi everybody! Happy Friday!

It has been a while since I took over mummy’s blog because I have been busy having lots of tummy time and laughs with mummy and daddy 🙂 There are so many new things that I am learning like how to support my neck and sit up with the help of mummy and daddy and also we have been reading lots of books. I do not really understand what those nursery rhymes mean but the pictures are interesting and mummy and daddy seem to find the rhymes amusing and they like to reminisce about their own childhood – hehehheh old people! 😛

The pics I’ve chosen today are of outfits where I am wearing an awesome t-shirt which was a present from one of mummy’s friends! I like it a lot as it’s grey colour is easy to match with my other clothes and it is super comfy! And of course it has headphones like the ones daddy uses when he goes out to dj. I heard mummy saying that the t-shirt is from Next. Mummy bought my red & grey striped hoodie from Charlie & Me and she has teamed it up with some red Bonds bottoms! The hoodie also has a dj theme – daddy must be proud when I wear these! I am his mini-me! 🙂

I hope you all have a happy Friday and fun weekend! Stay tuned for more ootd’s and if you have Instagram you can follow mummy on “jacqfruit” 🙂
