Life Lately – January Week Two

It seemed everyone was out and about this week enjoying the amazing display of summer that Melbourne is putting on for us this year. Everyone, except us. I don’t know how he got it but Daniel is just recovering from whooping cough even though he’s been fully vaccinated and it was so heartbreaking, not to mention super tiring for us, seeing him so ill.

Thank goodness the hospital has such a lovely vibe to it with the huge aquarium and pretty little images everywhere (you can tell we don’t have to visit much!). It’s so nice for the kids that are sick to have colorful and bright images to cheer them up a little.

I had a few dinners out this week, just locally at Yim Yam Thai and Slices and my parents took me out for a birthday lunch at Crossroad Kitchen. The hubby and I also had our first night out without the kids dining along the marble bar drinking sake and enjoying sashimi at Akachochin.

Here are some of the everyday behind the scenes pics that you don’t normally see! 1) That dreaded moment when you turn baby to her side and discover a poo explosion. Not only is it a nappy change but a whole outfit change and sometimes even a bath is needed if the poop has spread everywhere :/ 2) Trying to be organised with our week’s appointments, dinners and gigs on the fridge 3) Batch cooking by the hubby – he was so good cooking three different vegetable soups that all tasted amazing. He also made us green smoothies to try and rid all the sore throats and runny noses in our household 4) After coming home from our date night, my dad had dessert ready. Best. Cake. Ever.

What did you get up to last week?

Life Lately – December 2015

Leading up to Christmas can be both a hectic and exciting period of the year. With almost all except a couple of presents bought and wrapped before the second week of December, we were able to spend most of our time enjoying  the festivities surrounding us, including traditions like Simbang Gabi (Dawn Mass) and checking out the Christmas lights!

So while I took a mini break from blogging when everyone else was completing “Blogmas” this month, here are a few things we got up to!

Christmas lights and yum cha in the city, escaping the heatwave by camping out at home downstairs! A family photo with Santa at Crown.
A pilgrimage walk of around 23kms from Kings Park to St Patrick’s in the city! – I only completed the last little leg of it but it was so amazing to see everyone else get through the heat and the blisters…time for reflection and meditation. The last of his swimming lessons, Daniel progressed so quickly, and it was also my first time taking out both kids on my own, phew! What a feat!
Hannah’s first movie was Star Wars and she slept through almost the whole movie and was quiet as a mouse while Mummy and Daddy had their date night! One little observation after the movie – why is it that the baby change table has to be in the women’s toilets only? Props to the hubby for freshening up Hannah in his own way, no thanks to the change room situation.
Daniel’s creche Christmas party at the play centre – he loved it! Received a book as a pressie from Santa and got to end the year playing with his friends.

Super warm weather meant heaps of time outside!

Life Lately #9 – Lunches and laughter

2015/02/img_9963.jpgLunches and laughter

Found in my drafts folder and before I post a more updated “Life Lately” post, thought I’d get this one up to remember the warmer days before the recent grey and wet Melbourne weather set in!

First time cooking paella and it was a hit! – Beach time with Daniel – lots of work lunches with blog friends and work mates, gotta love working in this area of Melbourne’s CBD! Check out some of my work lunch haunts here, here and here! #worklunch – attended a bloggers catch up about the recent Dubai trip some of them were lucky enough to go on – treated my parentals to the Paul Simon and Sting concert – the two little cousins are starting to interact more and more with each other. It’s so cute to watch a bond start to grow between them.

That’s all for now! Hope you’re having a great week. I’ve been battling an extremely sore throat and can smell nothing but lemon and menthol lately ugghh 🙁 xx

Life Lately – Winter Warmers

Family and work have taken up most of the past few months and even so, we’ve managed to fit in some milestone celebrations ie. my grandma partied it up at her 80th birthday last month! Work has been extremely rewarding lately collaborating with great colleagues and learning lots of new things. Daniel’s vocabulary has been expanding quickly and his cuteness has kept my spirits high even through this flu-ey, freezing, Melbourne winter season. So here are a few pics (minus the sleepless nights and packets of cold and flu tablets!).

Life Lately #7 – Summer and the new year

During the new year and summer days we lazed around the pools, learnt to cook some traditional Filipino dishes, had lots of coffee catch ups with friends and family, attended many pre-wedding events and dance rehearsals at least twice a week – phew! Baby D is not so baby anymore and I’m trying to think of something else to nickname him, any thoughts? Anyhow hope you’ve all been well and I’ve got some exciting posts and giveaways coming up soon so happy reading and hope you’re all having a great first half of 2014.

Life Lately #6 – plus a Christmas Giveaway!

The last leg of 2013!

Can you believe it’s almost November!? Lately I’ve gotten accustomed to the fact that time just seems to go by way too quickly and the past few weeks have been no different – I can’t believe I have an almost one-year-old! Being October, the wedding season has started along with Christmas parties many more celebratory events and with an 11-month old in tow this has proven to be just a tad bit more tiring than usual (sorry for my lack of blog posts last week – I’ll make up for it this week!). If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@jacqfruit) you will have seen what my past few weekends have been like. Thank you to all of you for your comments and messages on my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook posts lately and as always if you have any suggestions on any topics you’d like to see in my blog posts please feel free to leave a comment or email me! Also, keep scrolling down to see details on how to enter my first Christmas giveaway! 🙂

– I originally set out to make October the month where I don’t buy anything new…umm, epic fail! I bought a few new things for my little man (shopping haul here) and also for myself as sadly my mat leave is ending soon and I thought I should buy a few new things for my first week back at work.
– visited a few eateries for the first time and also ate at some old favourites! (a local favourite, see here , a variety of new places I’d never been before ranging from Indian cuisine to American style chicken and burgers!
– we took Baby D to his first ever Melbourne Show and I had such a great time I wrote a massive post on it – photo heavy! See here.
– we had lots of nice and quiet family time and walked to the lake every time the sun was out so Baby D could feed the ducks! #itsthesimplethings
– Baby D spent some quality time with both sets of grandparents 🙂
– I attended the 6th annual AHC Dance competition this year not as a competitor but as a volunteer and it was so amazing to see life backstage and all the talented dancers live their passions on the stage at the prestigious Crown Casino venue, The Palms (blog post coming soon)
– I spent some time with Baby leisurely strolling through Melbourne city and South Melbourne visiting little boutiques and eateries
– celebrated lots of birthdays and had a few mothers group get togethers 🙂
– attended a few bloggers events, see here and here
– And finally yesterday, after a week of rehearsals, we took part in a proposal flash mob gig complete with dancing, beautiful log-stemmed roses, a percussionist ensemble, a curious Bourke street mall crowd, a film crew and a very much in love and most organised groom-to-be I’ve ever met! It was a success – she said YES! <3
