South Melbourne’s Tuckshop

The F.T Tuckshop – 2 Charles St, South Melbourne

As you can probably tell by the shaggy and untamed fringe Daniel is rocking we visited this place quite a few months ago now! – I found a few unpublished posts that I need to get up on this blog. I found this place whilst taking a random stroll down Clarendon street’s surroundings as I waited for my sister to meet me. It pays to look up and as we made our way down Coventry street and its cute boutiques the words “cheeseburger, jaffle and milkshakes” caught me eye.

In a small space down the laneway emerged Tuckshop – suitably named as ordering through the little window was like ordering lunch at the tuckshop at primary school 🙂 With quite a substantial menu for lunch, Baby D and I couldn’t go past the meatball sandwich and a Banoffee milkshake. The bread roll was soft and the meatballs were covered in just the right amount of sauce and melted cheese. Our milkshake was served with a cute striped straw, creamy and super delicious! 🙂 We lounged around and watched people on their lunch break enjoying old school jaffles and quality coffee. If you’re after a satisfying meal of good old classics served by friendly staff check out Tuckshop! 🙂

Melbourne Mondays – Di Bella Roasting Warehouse

Lunch with mum

Di Bella Roasting Warehouse in North Melbourne, lunching with my mum & sis, organic lemon lime bitters with a kick, the salad special with crispy pork & apple and the chicken mince salad, cute details, my mum!

A North Melbourne gem!

A short walk from Errol street and you will find this trendy warehouse-style eatery with patrons spilling out on to the footpath through the gaping roller door wall. After having a heavy and not so healthy Macca’s breakfast at the airport and sweating from the super hot weather, it was nice to sit down in the shade of this popular coffee joint. As it was super hot that day, I actually didn’t order their coffee opting for a big, juicy salad instead. I must visit again soon as it was a sin to not order the coffee at a place like this!

The service was easy-going and very friendly and we ordered the day’s special crispy pork salad and chicken mince Thai style salad. These dishes were perfect for a day that was super hot and dry. Paired with their organic lemon and lime bitters, the salads were very satisfying. I also felt comfortable having my pram at the table and our waitress kindly seated us in a pram-friendly area which was basically right at the front of the warehouse so we were able to people watch while we enoyed our lunch!

I’m glad we ventured away from Errol street to find yet another quality Melbourne eatery – definitely coming back to this place soon!

Tocino pork rolls

After a full week of catch ups in the first week of August, it was nice to be home with the kitchen looking like this! – hubby and his tocino roll creation. Trying to bring more home-made lunches to work, the main showstopping act in this delicious roll were the slices of tocino (sweet & savoury Filipino flavoured pork). Hubby added some veggies which he had pickled himself (just a packet of coleslaw mix on sale from Coles), coriander and cucumber finished off with a dash of soy sauce. It was a whole mix of ingredients that tasted really good together when we toasted them in the sandwich press the next day.

Have you got a special lunchbox creation you’d like to share? Let me know! 🙂
