Mama Mondays – Was it on sale mummy?

I just had to capture his crooked haircut courtesy of Daddy!

When we were getting changed the other day…

D: Where did you get my trackies from Mummy? I like these ones!

Mum: I got them from Bardot Junior!

D: Were they on sale?

Mum: Yes babe, they were on sale.

D: Oh! That’s good then!

He’s only three years old but he’s already checking up on the shopping I do! He seriously surprises us everyday with the things he says.

I love his early awareness of budgeting. Hopefully he’ll be way better than I am when it comes to spending! I’m trying to be better though.

What are some little things you do to keep your budget in check?

Mama Mondays – 7 months post partum

Mama Mondays – 7 months post partum update
(I know it’s not a Monday but this post has been sitting in my drafts for so long now and I just had to get it out!)

Height/Weight: It has been such a hectic month and I’ve forgotten to weigh Hannah and myself! I’ll do so when she wakes up and update this post. Hannah is growing out of her clothes so quickly and is wearing 00 and 0 sized onesies.

Routine/Sleep: Hannah is still taking around three naps a day but it’s slowly morphing into only two – a long one from mid morning to lunchtime and one later in the afternoon. She still isn’t sleeping straight through the night and wakes a couple of times and needs to be settled which only takes a couple of minutes. Even though she may cry, it doesn’t wake Daniel up which is so good! He seems to able to sleep through anything just like Daddy.

Eating/Feeding: Hannah has totally got the hang of eating and loves her veggies and savoury food. I gave her a mix of fruits and she found it so sour and sweet and spat it straight out! She has already tried some egg and didn’t have any reaction to it and we’re yet to try peanuts, honey etc. We’ve got our 8 month check up with the maternal health nurse next month, it feels like ages since we’ve seen her. Hannah also has a bit of cool boiled water after having solids. She is still being breastfed and we have tried giving her the bottle but she just bites it and plays with it instead of actually drinking properly! Milestones: So many milestones have happened in just the last month. Hannah started to move around by rolling and doing 360’s to get to her toys. Within a week she was trying to commando-crawl and now she moves around by using both her arms and legs and looks like a little caterpillar 🙂

She loves her food…and giving out lots of smiles!

Hannah is as animated as ever and both her and her big brother have the most lively and bright facial expressions I’ve ever seen.

Hannah has also been babbling away – she is quite the chatterbox (the hubby says “I wonder where she gets that from!”). She is making a lot of different sounds like “da da da”, “mmmmma”, “be be be” and clicking sounds with her tongue. She is especially chatty in the mornings and after she has eaten a meal.

This month has been such a roller coaster of emotions for us all including Daniel as we’ve had a few things happen to some of our family members including sickness and a move overseas 🙁 I’ve been quite emotional lately and even though to others it may seem like I’m always happy, this past month has just been a whirlwind of feelings and I’ve felt so drained so I’m sorry for the lack of blog posts here. I’m still posting regularly on my Snapchat (@jacq-fruit) and Instagram feed though so you can catch me on there as well. I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things now so let me know what kinds of posts you want to see here!

Happy first of the month! Good night!

Hannah falls asleep so easily with my sis and some of my aunties and cousins! Wish she was like that with me! Date night at Vue De Monde. Daniel (and myself and the hubby) so sad saying goodbye to our cousins and aunty 🙁

Mama Mondays – 5 months post partum

Hannah 5 months cotton on

Mama Mondays – 5 months post partum

Height/Weight: Hannah’s next check up with the nurse will be at eight months so it feels like such a big gap in between knowing her measurements because we’ve had them quite regularly up until now. I got her on the scales at home with me and it looks like shes weighing around 7.7kgs at the moment. Not sure how long she is.
I’m sitting at 65.5kg this month and doing a little big of yoga here and there. I need to get back into doing it daily!

Family time getting easier and easier as we learn the ropes and logistics of going to the shops, parties and going on roadtrips with two little ones in tow – we took them to Geelong and Phillip Island this month, lots of Daddy time and time with her big brother who loves showering her with hugs and kisses, she loves trips in her pram.

Routine/Sleep: We all usually head downstairs to start our day after the hubby has left for work so around 8.30am is when we’ve usually started to eat brekkie and get ready for the day ahead. Hannah sometimes wakes up earlier at 6 or 7am and when she does, we drive Daddy to the train station. Then she gets sleepy and has her first nap around 9:30-10:30am and if she’s in a pram or in the car because we’re out, she’ll normally sleep a long chunk until lunch time. After lunch and play Hannah will next get sleepy around mid afternoon and then have yet another nap at 4:30pm or so. I used to wait for hubby to get home so he could bathe her but these days always try to bathe her before he comes home so we’re all fresh and ready for dinner. Then it seems Hannah will sleep at around 8pm but keep waking up until she sleeps a big chunk from around 10pm – 2am.
It feels like it’s a little different each day and all the days just blur into one so I’m just taking it as it comes. Recently I tried not to feed her at all during the night and she cried and cried but the hubby kept settling her while I stayed in Daniel’s room. My boobs ended up so sore by the end of it but she actually survived the night right up until 4:30-5am without feeding. She slept quite well the next night but then we went away for the weekend to Phillip Island and she slept so soundly the whole night only waking up a couple of times. We shared a bed and I know remember why we ended up co-sleeping with Daniel – they just seem to sleep so much more peacefully and longer when they’re next to me.

hannah march 19th 2016

Eating/Feeding: Hannah has had a taste of sweet potato, carrot, and some other flavours including sucking on a chicken bone while at her grandparents house…ahhh no wonder kids always love it at their grandparents! – they get to eat things we wouldn’t normally give them lol! She loves melons and loves to eat. This month I will try to use less of the packet baby food and try to puree my own.

3 little cousins with one on the way!

Milestones: Hannah is just rolling and moving all over the place now. I still don’t understand how she manages to change direction so quickly without even crawling – she’ll be facing one way to start with then within a couple of minutes she’ll be facing the other way! Hannah has also started to giggle a lot more now, especially when you playing peek-a-boo with her. Her face is so animated, the hubby said he feels like he can really tell what she’s thinking and feeling by the way she looks at him! Hannah also went on her first couple of trips away this month to Geelong and Phillip Island. She seemed to absolutely love watching Daniel and cousin Madison playing with each other day and night – she looked like she just wanted to join in already! Oh and she can now reach her foot to her mouth and I catch her chomping on her big toe sometimes haha!
I’ve been slowly wearing some of my pre-pregnancy clothes again but am also a little bombarded with all the clothes in this house, and keep thinking I should just clear out the whole wardrobe and start again, this time being very minimalistic with what I buy. But then every time I see pretty dresses or vibrant outfits on Instagram or in the stores, I think how can you not buy and wear all the pretty clothes that are out there. Ughhh I can’t make up my mind! My eczema continues to flare up this month and the doctor has given me a different type of ointment to try out. I’ve also stopped eating chocolate hot cross buns – maybe out one on the odd occassion! I ran for the first time in so long and it wasn’t even in runners, it was on the beach at Phillip Island as my brother, hubby and I were trying to get to The Pinnacles in a hurry before it was time for dinner. It felt good to get super fresh air and sweat it out but I really need to work on my fitness.

  My baby girl and I
Argghh I love her feet!! So cute!!!   Such big, pretty eyes!
Chilling out in bed, crafts at home, trips to the zoos and off to see the dinosaurs!

Mama Mondays – Four Months Post Partum

Mama Mondays – Four months Post Partum

Height/weight: Baby – Hannah has gained 789g in the last four weeks weighing in at 6.5kg and measuring 64cms long at her 4 month check up! The nurse said she’s growing very well. I am so relieved because I thought that she might have dropped a bit of weight due to being sick but turns out she’s doing great! Yay! Go us! I’ve packed away all the 0000 and 000 sized clothing and now even some of the 00 sized onesies are getting tight.

Mama – This week I’m 66.4kg. If you’ve read some of my other pregnancy and post partum updates you’ll know that I’m not really concerned about the kilos but rather just fitting back into my old clothes so I don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe a size up! I’ve been dancing every week leading up to our gig at St Kilda Fest this year and continuing to practice Brett’s beginners yoga routine (see here). I’m still feeling a bit of jiggly bits around my middle area but I’m feeling good in general and even managed to fit into one of my old pairs of jeans! Umm, I mean super stretchy jeggings, does that count?! Haha!4 month update The Urban Ma

Routine: Baby – Hannah is staying awake longer and starting to play with us a lot more. She still seems to sleep quite a bit especially if we’re out the whole day – she loves movement. So if I’m out the whole day running errands or catching up with friends, she’ll sleep in the car and then in the pram as long as it’s moving. Yesterday I went out for a birthday brunch and Hannah was so good letting me eat in peace and chatting with my friends before waking up right at the end to take a photo with the other babies!
I’ve found that Hannah normally gets sleepy around 9am, lunchtime and another nap in the late afternoon before having a bath. Then in the evenings she seems to be catnapping on and off until about 9.30pm and that’s when she sleeps a longer stretch.4 months old The Urban Ma blog

Mama – This month was a lot easier than last month. Both kids are feeling so much better so it has made such a difference to our days…and nights. A little less yelling and a lot more smiles and outings. IMG_9375 4 month update The Urban Ma blog

Sleeping: Baby Hannah is not sleeping through the night yet and at her 4 month check up the nurse said that she should be. The nurse said if Hannah wakes up in the middle of the night, I should try and put her back to sleep instead of feeding her (which is what I’ve been doing up until now) as she might not be hungry and just waking up because that’s what she’s used to. With the hubby working so much lately it’s been hard to try this out because if I’m the one that tries to get her back to sleep she totally sniffs around and tries to latch onto me! I really have to try and get the hubby to get up and settle her back down. I’m not too stressed about Hannah not sleeping through the night though – I know all babies are different, but I’ll try it out and see how we go 🙂

Eating/feeding: Baby – I can’t believe my baby has start solids! Hannah had her first taste of rice cereal last week and she loved it! She wasn’t too sure at first but then once she got into it she was almost grabbing the spoon from me that’s how eager she was to eat! She had those big hungry eyes staring at all the dinner on our table! Looks like she’s going to be a big eater like her big brother. I’m still breastfeeding and have tried to get the hubby to try feeding her my expressed milk from the bottle but she won’t take it. I think I might really need to be out of the house for her to do so?solids 4 months old The Urban Ma

Milestones:  Baby –  Hannah is now teething! – drooling everywhere and reaching for things to put in her mouth like my hands and the monkey that hangs from her playmat ensemble. She is reaching for toys and rolled over for the first time from her back to her tummy. We also heard her giggle for the first time yesterday- Daddy was playing with her after he came home from work. So many firsts this month and I know the next few months will see many more milestones! 4 month check upThe 4 month information pack I received from the maternal child health nurse

Mama – I had a few firsts this month too – my first gig back with Rewind and my first time leaving Hannah with someone other than the hubby. Gosh having two kids and a break from dancing really messes with your memory! I found it really hard to remember the chorey that I learnt for the show. I really need to get to classes and slowly get it back again! I absolutely loved being with the crew again and seeing the smiles on the faces of our audience. On different note, my eczema has flared up really badly – probably not pregnancy related and more due to lack of sleep, stress or my diet. My hair has started to slowly fall out and I remember this happened around 5 months after I gave birth to Daniel. It was back to normal by the time Daniel turned one. I can totally understand why mums end up cutting their hair short. It was a little scary seeing the shower drain blocked up with all my hair when Daniel was a baby, and on top of the normal post pregnancy hair loss, babies also love pulling at your hair! That along with little to no time for yourself makes a wash and go haircut so appealing as you try to look as put together as you possibly can.

A note to new moms with long hair: Strands of hair can end up tightly wrapped around your baby’s tiny appendages, including his fingers, toes, wrists, ankles, and penis. This is called a hair tourniquet, and it can be quite painful for your little one. If you find him crying for no apparent reason, check carefully for tight bands of hair. – BabyCenter

Rewind girls Feb 2016

It’s been a bit of a journey getting used to being a mama to two kids and a hubby. I’m still trying to figure out how to keep the kids happy, fed, clean and entertained while keeping a clean house and keeping the family full and nourished. I feel like I’m always in an irritated mood when things don’t go to plan and I really need to learn to let that go because with kids, things never go to plan! :/

Daniel has been such a good big brother. We’ve been so lucky that he’s so great with Hannah and very helpful. He is growing up so quickly and able to do more and more things on his own. Yesterday I got him dressed and started to button up his shirt when he exclaimed “No Mummy, I can do these (the buttons). Look I’ll show you!”. About ten minutes later, he had buttoned up all six buttons by himself.

The other day on our way home from catching up with friends, he asked where we were going and when I told him we were going home he protested and said, “No I don’t want to go home Mummy. I want to go to the cafe! Can we go to the cafe pleeeeeassee?”. Ok note to self, tone down on the eating out and make sure to pack him his own food. He’s getting too used to ordering from menus and it’s getting a little expensive. Whoops. My bad.

It’s been so good being able to get out and about with the two of them after such a difficult January! I guess we’re only given what we can handle and it takes those tough times to appreciate and embrace the good ones.

Mama Mondays – 1 month post partum update

Bump photo 1 month post par1 month post partum update The Urban Ma

Mama Monday – 1 month post partum update

We’ve survived the first four weeks of sleep deprivation and life with two little ones! At times it was so hectic but all the cuddles and cute little baby coos and ahhhhs helped us to momentarily forget how tired we were and just take it all in. This newborn time is so fleeting. If we spend too much time focusing on the negatives, we’ll regret it later when our babies are teenagers and no longer want to hang with us!

So here is our 4 week update!

Height/weight: Baby – At Hannah’s 4 week check up, the nurse was happy to see her gaining lots of weight and growing well. Hannah measured 4.1kgs and 54.5cms long putting her just above the 50th percentile of girls length-for-age for her weight and 75th percentile for her height. Compared to Daniel at his 4 week check up, Hannah is a lot lighter with Daniel weighing 5kgs and measuring 56cms long.
Hannah is just starting to grow out of her onesies that are sized 0000! Daniel he grew out of them within the first two weeks! Onesies are my current fave item of clothing for her as they’re so easy to wear…especially the ones with the zip! Only recently have I started to dress Hannah in separates.
Mama – I haven’t weighed myself recently but I don’t think I’ve lost any more weight than in my last post…I actually feel bigger around the belly than last week but that’s probably because I’ve been so bad lately – I can’t stop eating sweets!!! Macarons, chocolate, vanilla ice cream with chocolate cake warmed up in the microwave, OMG somebody stop me! So sizes-wise I’m still wearing my maternity jeans on the rare occasion that you see me changed out of my pj’s and leggings!

Routine: Baby – Hannah doesn’t really have a set routine as yet – I feed her every 2-3 hours after which she is awake only for a little while and then straight back to sleep. Lately she’s stayed up a little longer for some play time with us! Mama – We stayed home for the first 4 weeks post partum with the exception of a couple of outings to the hospital and photoshoots and so I try to start my morning routine off with a load of laundry, breakfast and some more decluttering around the house (I try to declutter as much as possible before going to bed). Then in the evenings I try to get my blog posts done which as you can tell by this late 1 month update, I’m still trying to work on!

Sleeping: Baby Hannah is still feeding and sleeping all day and night long but I’ve noticed that recently instead of going straight to sleep after a feed, she’s awake a little longer. We normally start our day at 6 or 7am and go to bed at 9pm. Hannah then wakes up around twice at night – once at 12-1am and another time at 3-4am. It’s such a big change from when I got to sleep in every morning until 8:30-9am with Daniel on those 5 weeks of maternity leave I had before Hannah was born! Mama – I try to nap whenever Hannah is asleep but we had Daniel’s birthday parties and some events to attend recently and I was unable to nap during that day. I am really going to try my best this week to take a break and sleep during the day…wish me luck!

Eating/feeding: Baby –  Hannah is still feeding every 2-3 hours throughout both day and night, hence the lack of sleep for me! I’m still exclusively breastfeeding on demand and my milk supply has regulated now and my boobs don’t hurt as much thank goodness. Like Daniel, sometimes Hannah seems really irritated after feeding and it seems to be because sometimes I haven’t got that burp out of her so I really need to be diligent with that.
I really want to go to my work Christmas party this week but I haven’t left Hannah longer than an hour or two yet and also haven’t yet tried giving her the bottle eeeek! Looks like there won’t be any partying for me anytime soon!

Milestones:  Baby – Hannah has been smiling a lot more lately and I’m still not sure whether it’s just coincidence and reflex or if she really means it! From baby acne and now cradle cap (ugh it’s so hard to resist picking at it!), Hannah’s skin feels a little rough and dry but the nurse and my other mama friends say this is normal for newborns. I guess Daniel was just lucky that he never got it. Sometimes it looks like Hannah’s going to roll over from her back to her tummy but I’m sure that’s not the case as it’s way too early right?
Mama – We went on our first outing the other day and it was so tiring! – it felt like our car was full of bags – mine and Hannah’s and Daniel’s. I felt stressed out every time I saw a red light approaching as Hannah cries each time the car stops…arghhh! We really need to get a new car!
We went to Highpoint the other day and thank goodness I know exactly where all the bathrooms and lifts are located. With Daniel needing to all of a sudden go to the loo and Hannah requiring nappy changes or a feed, I’d be so stressed if I had to fight the crowds and search for these life-saving rooms! It feels like even a short ten minute trip to the shops has expanded to take an hour just by adding a newborn to the mix.
I’m feeling a little better down there but I’m still not lifting anything heavier than Hannah as I feel like everything will fall out if I do! I’ve been doing my pelvic floor exercises consistently everyday and can’t wait to get back to dance class/gym classes. The Urban Ma 1 month post partum updateSelfies with my little lady and discreetly breastfeeding on our trip to Santa’s Magical Kingdom

Bump diary #3 – 22 week update

The Urban Ma bump update 22 weeks

How far along are you? 22 weeks and 6 days
How big is baby? Baby is weighing around 430g and, according to Baby Center, measuring around 27cms long
Body and changes:
– Weight gain I’m guessing more than I did last week!? I’ve been feasting on everything and as hard as I try I can’t seem to limit myself to one serving at dinner (the other night we had dinuguan – a Filipino dish of pork and black in colour thanks to the ingredient of pigs blood. I probably ate around 3 servings! And Sunday night papa cooked the most amazing meatloaf ever that I just kept going back for more!). Ugghh! Where is your self control Jacqui?
– Stretch marks Same as last week and still rubbing Bio Oil and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter all over my bump in the mornings and evenings.
Sleep Last week, I don’t know what was going on, but I was waking up more than usual in the middle of the night…either going to the bathroom or just laying awake in bed trying desperately to get back to sleep! Hopefully this week is much better
Maternity clothes?
I’ve been wearing stretchy skits and tops to work and my actual maternity clothes are just some pairs of jeans from Top Shop and Target, and one pair of work pants also from Target from my previous pregnancy. I will post another bump diary update in the coming weeks with some of my comfy, work wear picks!
The Other Stuff: It is around this time in the pregnancy that expectant mums start to produce colostrum (the important, rich first milk that Baby gets, full of protein and antibodies in the first few days after birth). Apparently by the time Baby is born the glandular tissue in the breasts will have doubled in size! Other changes that may occur include increased vaginal discharge and the need to go to the loo more often –

The Urban Ma 22 weeks pregnant

Eating: Everything and Kit Kats in the afternoons – they’re so cold and crisp when they come out of the vending machine!
Feeling: Like I’ve got a lot more energy than in previous weeks. Mr D and I even went along to the parish working bee last Saturday to help out with some weeding and gardening and I think I got a little bit too stuck into it that I started to feel a little discomfort in my pelvic area. I hadn’t felt it it before so I just had a long rest in the afternoon and it went away almost immediately. Hopefully it’s not a feeling that will come back later and the midwife that we saw today told me that I should just take it easy when it comes to gardening or housework.
Needing: a foot and leg massage and trip to the hairdressers for a trim and colour…my colour has grown out so much and I just want to tidy everything up.
Wanting: to spend every minute of the day with Mr D, and tonight I was so annoyed at the trains being cancelled 2 stops before mine on the way home. I just wanted to get home to our toasty, warm, lounge room, eat leftovers for dinner and hang out with Mr D while watching Masterchef. Thankfully papa was able to pick the hubby and I up from the station so we didn’t have to wait in the dark and the rain for the replacement buses to come.
Missing: Being able to bend over. Such a simple action but now I’m finding it hard to put my own shoes on when they have laces. I am also missing lying down on my stomach and my back.
Watching: Masterchef and movies on Netflix like Just Go With It – makes me want to go to Hawaii!
Bookmarking: Warm, sunny holiday destinations. (OMG Baby is kicking and moving around so much right now! It’s like there’s a gymnastics lesson going on in there!! How exciting!)
Noticing: My hair and nails growing faster
Enjoying: Weekends with the family (see post here) and enjoying listening to the rain pitter-pattering outside right now.

The Urban Ma toys for boysThe Urban Ma 22 week update

I am so thankful for my wonderful family and most of all my parents! This past week we shared delicious family meals together and the hubby and I were saved from long journey home when the trains were terminated by the parents. Always there for us when we need them. Always looking out for their kids even though we’re all grown up. Love them so, so much.

Grateful Daniel #3
Daddy: Daniel do you want to say thanks for anything today?
Daniel: Uhhhh yes
Daddy: What do you want to say thanks for?
Daniel: Uhhhh thanks to God for ninong JP’s racing (JP is one of Daniel’s godfathers).
Daddy: Why do you want to say thanks for ninong JP?
Daniel: Uhhhhh because he’s the fastest!

Mr D was so excited after seeing his ninong racing around that he couldn’t settle down for his afternoon nap – he just wanted to keep playing with his cars lol! So happy to see him enjoying the things that our friends have an interest in and hearing him be thankful for it!

To read how Mr D’s thankfulness night time routine started, see the blog post here!
Thanks to all of you for your nice comments on Facebook about it and it’s so heartwarming to know that you love the idea and have incorporated into your bedtime traditions too!
