January favourites 2017

It’s been an interesting start to the new year. Lots of things have happened and rather than dwelling on the not-so-good, I thought I’d share my favorites for the month! The hubby and I started the year off spending less time holding onto our phones and more time holding onto each other and creating memories with the kids and it’s been amazing, so below are something of the things that have brightened up the first few weeks of 2017.

Hot air ballooning with Global Ballooning

With January being my birthday month it’s always such a hectic end of the year/start of the year period. So this year I absolutely loved that the hubby planned something for just the two of us for breakfast and dinner. I  was surprised with a hot air balloon ride! It was like we were watching a live Google Earth flying high over the houses, golf courses, freeways and parks. It was so peaceful up there that I think it would be the perfect place to get away on your own. No noise and beautiful views of our world. We watched as the sun rose and the beautiful changes of colour in the morning sky. I would highly recommend trying out this experience if you haven’t been already! We flew with Global Ballooning Australia and they were brilliant. So friendly and knowledgeable.

Dinner dates – Nieuw Amsterdam & The Graham

We spent most of this month feeling like we were in holiday mode and the evenings were filled with either family movie nights and relaxing at the beach, or enjoying dining out with friends. The hubby booked birthday dinner for me at one of our faves – Nieuw Amsterdam. This place has amazing food with vibrant service and there’s just something comfortable about being there. This time round some of the dishes we enjoyed were the zucchini flower poppers, the pork and scallops and the fresh tasting salmon ceviche.

Sharing a meal is always such a great way to bring about conversation and get to know each other better and we did just that with some friends from the parish at a sophisticated yet casual place in Port Melbourne called The Graham. I had the pork belly for entree and it was so delicious and generous in serving, I wondered how I would finish the mushroom risotto I had ordered for mains. I needn’t worry as the risotto was so tasty, I easily cleaned up the plate. The wine and conversation was never-ending which made for another great night out. We didn’t have to worry about parking as there were plenty parking options around and the beach is just a walk away. Great for a no fuss weeknight dinner I say!

How much clearer are these two pics above compared to the previous ones? These two were taken with the hubby’s Samsung S6 andriod phone. So much sharper than my iPhone 6S.

Kikki K – Wellbeing Diary

A new year means a shiny new diary. I love opening up books to fresh, clean, white pages. A blank canvas to write new stories and capture wandering thoughts. This year the hubby bought me the Wellbeing Diary from Kikki K. So apart from keeping up with appointments, to do’s and generally organising my life, this diary also has weekly prompts that encourage me to reflect and improve on things like health, nutrition, exercise and overall wellbeing. There’s a different focus theme for each month of the year and so far I’m hooked!

January – Dream Then Do (bucketlists, dreams and goals)
February – Exercise
March – Nutrition
April – Sleeping Habits
May – Mindfulness
June – Time for Me
July – Relationships
August – Attitude Audit (Self Esteem)
September – Surroundings (Enhance your sense of wellbeing by surrounding yourself with the things you love. Simplify. Declutter. Creativity)
October – Technology Detox (Technology has the power to improve lives in so many ways but it can also provide endless distraction which can negatively impact your productivity, relationships and sense of wellbeing)
November – De-stress
December – Gratitude

I also love how the diary has a yearly, monthly and weekly view set up. Easy to plan dates and have an overview of what’s coming up.

Skin Naturale’s Me. range – Pink Clay and Jojoba Exfoliant

Spending so much time outdoors in the sun, sand, park, garden etc means slathering on the sunscreen, moisturiser and make up. After a long day out, exfoliating with this pink clay and jojoba medley makes my skin feel oh so squeaky clean and smooth. Gentle enough to be used daily but thorough enough to stimulate blood circulation, even out complexion, reduce pre mature aging and tighten pores. I’m sure I’ve included this in a previous favorites post I’m so obsessed with it!

How was your start to 2017? What were some of your favorite places, products or moments that brightened up your January?

My April faves

 My April 2014 Favourites

I just read over my blog post below before hitting publish and it seems as though “smoothness” is the theme of the month! From a smooth body to a smooth face thanks to my new skincare fave from Brown Skin Secrets, I hope you end up using one of the below favourites and if you do make sure you let me know what you think and what your April or May faves are 🙂 xx

SkinVitals Eye Brighten cloth eye masks
  Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm
Sally Hansen’s Triple Strong nail strengthener
 Brown Skin Secrets Balancing Moisturiser
Brown Skin Secrets Pink Clay and Jojoba Exfoliant
 – Lady Jane Metal Ponytail Bow
  Manicare Exfoliating Gloves

Eye Mask:  I used to apply SkinVitals eye masks after a late night out dancing. These days I use them after a restless night of no sleep due to a teething toddler – around once every couple of months! With puffy eyes that feel hot and tired I apply them soon as I jump into bed and the coolness of the cloth masks feels so good it’s puts me to sleep almost instantly!

Nail Strengthener: I bought this nail strengthener when it was on sale at Woolworths and my nails grew so strong and fast! Of course maintaining a good diet and protecting your hands from detergents also helps with healthy nails. I was surprised at how well Sally Hansen’s Triple Strong nail strengthener worked! I ran out of my Revitanail strengthener a couple of years ago now and haven’t found anything as effective til now.

Exfoliating Gloves: One time at dance rehearsals earlier this year, I brushed past one of the dancers in our crew and her skin was so soft. When I asked her what moisturiser or body butter she used, she explained that she exfoliating gloves. I got onto these bad boys straight after that and have been enjoying the same smooth sensation. Even though I want to use it every single day, I’ve been told that it may be a little too harsh on the skin and to limit my use to once a week.

Lip stain/balm: I love Revlon’s lip stains, balms and lip butters because they don’t leave my lips feeling sticky and heavy like other products so when Target had 40% off all Revlon items I bought 3 of the new lacquer and matte Colorburst range. I’m trying to be extra mindful of the household budget these days so I’ve chosen to purchase these Revlon balms over the Clinique Chubby balms and Tarte Pure Delights. Revlon’s Colorburst balms are easy to apply and leave my lips feeling soft and moisturised. And now with the extended range of lacquer and matte options there are so many more shades to choose from. Check out my Instagram (@jacqfruit) to see the other shades I bought 🙂

Hair ties: I was super excited when I won a Lady Jane gift pack on Instagram a couple of months ago and from the pile of products I received I have been using Lady Jane’s metal ponytails never every day! Totally crushing on how cute they look not only as a hair tie but also as an accessory on my wrist!

Face moisturiser and exfoliant: I was searching for a new face moisturiser to try for a while and it was just fate when I ended up with a gig for a fresh, new brand called Brown Skin Secrets by Skin Naturale. After receiving a few little sample pots I was hooked. Ever since then I have been buying the Balancing Moisturiser and more recently the Pink Clay exfoliant and using them as part of my daily skincare routine. I have combination skin and also have eczema so I love how Brown Skin Secrets uses all natural ingredients (see here) from green tea, rosehip oil, aloe vera and cucumber extract to avocado, sweet almond and manuka honey – it sounds almost good enough to spread on my morning toast and eat for brekkie! The scent is mild and pleasant and after using this product for a few months my pores appear smaller and my face feels soft, smooth and hydrated. Founder Lynn Ross is an inspiration with her research and development of this unique product –  this is a skincare range borne of pure passion and commitment to finding and embracing natural beauty with natural products. If you want radiant and healthy skin, then check out the new Brown Skin Secrets range online here or at a reputable day spa near you. Because I missed out on a couple of blog posts last week due to a house full of sick boys and moving back home from a 5 week stint in the heart of Melbourne, I thought I’d do a special post for you all – Made in Melbourne! It’s also a double-post Monday so keep an eye out for a second post from Yours Truly today. Happy Monday everyone! <3

Made in Melbourne May edit!

Having recently spent some time (5 weeks) in our beautiful city I’ve been fortunate enough to find some amazing products handmade right here in Melbourne. With our fresh new floors looking polished but smelling of varnish fumes, I have been happily putting my recently acquired candles to good use – L’Ascari and The Kandle Club! With the winter weather settling in I have also been loving the all natural, all organic and vegan Skin Naturale brand and their new brand spanking new range of hand and body creams! So here is my Made in Melbourne May edit:

L’ASCARI Artisan Soy Candles & Lifestyle Products

lascari.com.au

I first saw these candles at a boutique on Little Bourke street called Wilkins & Kent – they sell furniture and homewares. I was immediately drawn to the unique packaging and design, and fell in love with the frangipani scent – such a beautiful and delicate fragrance.  These artisan soy candles are hand-made by Melbourne based couple Luca Chiaravalle and Belinda Chiaravalle containing pure soy wax containing no petroleum, toxic materials, herbicides or pesticides. Each candle displays a photo of their Italian hometown – such a nostalgic touch! L’ASCARI candles can be purchased from a few stockists so be sure to check their website for more information. They also have some cool looking “ManCandles” and I think I’m going to have to purchase the Espresso one for my better half…and another frangipani candle…and also the French pear room diffuser! Mmmmm bliss!

Skin Naturale – Natural and Organic Skincare Company

Website. Facebook. Twitter

Recently I was fortunate enough to meet the creator and founder of Skin Naturale, Lynn Ross, and scored myself some sample pots of their latest skin care range. I loved the smell so much I immediately had to have the Coconut Oil bottle! What I really love about Skin Naturale’s products is that they are made with all natural ingredients that have been tried and tested…not on animals! As I have such sensitive skin it is hard for me to find deliciously scented moisturizers that don’t cause my skin to break out or become irritated and having used the Coconut Oil moisturizer for around 3 weeks now, my skin is feeling so soft and smooth. Finally a locally made, natural moisturizer that leaves me feeling and smelling so amazingly good! Next up on my shopping list…Vanilla Chai! Upon placing my next order I asked Skin Naturale a few questions to get to know their brand:

Tell me about Skin Naturale and what makes this brand so different?

Skin Naturale has two different brands – Earth&Body which is now on the market and BrownSkinSecrets which will be released shortly.

The Earth&Body range includes hand and body creams that is nothing like anything on the market. It is made from fruit, nut and vegetable extracts (natural and organically derived ingredients) suitable for the most sensitive of skin.  We not only wanted to create a ‘well being’ product free from harsh chemicals, mineral oils, parabens, sulfates, polyethylene glycol (PEG’s), artificial colours and fragrances; but also wanted to provide people with an experience – In a café?  Vanilla Chai; On the beach? Coconut Bliss or Sailing the Mediterranean? Mediterranean Dream – take your pick!!

So this skincare range is packed full of the best ingredients for our skin?

Yes definitely! With years of research into natural ingredients and working with a cosmetic chemist I wanted to apply the natural secrets of what I discovered into a creating something for the hand and body that was made from the purest form of ingredients. The creams are high in anti oxidants, vitamins, minerals and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and is easily absorbed into the skin to soothe, nourish, protect and improve skin tone and texture.

Sounds like such great quality products! Where can we buy your skincare range?

We are so excited that the range has also been effective on babies and people with eczema; and that our products have been embraced by our customers in a short period of time, which we are very grateful for.

Skin Naturale products are available for purchase online at our website www.earthnbody.com and are also available at ‘Nature Finds You’ Beauty Salon www.naturefindsyou.com.au at no. 2 Queens St, Melbourne, Australia.  We are also in current negotiations with stockists to make our products more readily available for our customers.

Check out Skin Naturale’s Facebook page here for updates on their latest products, research and skincare info.

They came in the mail via express post right on time for Mother’s Day with a special little extra – a set of tealight candles in the scent ‘Baby Powder’! Thank you Kandle Club for brightening up my first Mother’s Day and mum’s first Grandmother’s Day with your Melbourne made goodies!  If you would like to purchase some pretty little jars of natural soy wax candles then head to the Kandle Club’s Facebook page here!
