Style Saturdays – Hoodies and jeans

Styling Daniel

I love the simple combo of a warm cozy hoodie and jeans on our little one. It’s a perfect match for him to run around in during the cooler seasons yet still look comfortable and stylish enough to go out in with a nice pair of boots. This past winter I bought about three hoodies from Target and they were all so easy to pair and wear.

My April faves

 My April 2014 Favourites

I just read over my blog post below before hitting publish and it seems as though “smoothness” is the theme of the month! From a smooth body to a smooth face thanks to my new skincare fave from Brown Skin Secrets, I hope you end up using one of the below favourites and if you do make sure you let me know what you think and what your April or May faves are 🙂 xx

SkinVitals Eye Brighten cloth eye masks
  Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm
Sally Hansen’s Triple Strong nail strengthener
 Brown Skin Secrets Balancing Moisturiser
Brown Skin Secrets Pink Clay and Jojoba Exfoliant
 – Lady Jane Metal Ponytail Bow
  Manicare Exfoliating Gloves

Eye Mask:  I used to apply SkinVitals eye masks after a late night out dancing. These days I use them after a restless night of no sleep due to a teething toddler – around once every couple of months! With puffy eyes that feel hot and tired I apply them soon as I jump into bed and the coolness of the cloth masks feels so good it’s puts me to sleep almost instantly!

Nail Strengthener: I bought this nail strengthener when it was on sale at Woolworths and my nails grew so strong and fast! Of course maintaining a good diet and protecting your hands from detergents also helps with healthy nails. I was surprised at how well Sally Hansen’s Triple Strong nail strengthener worked! I ran out of my Revitanail strengthener a couple of years ago now and haven’t found anything as effective til now.

Exfoliating Gloves: One time at dance rehearsals earlier this year, I brushed past one of the dancers in our crew and her skin was so soft. When I asked her what moisturiser or body butter she used, she explained that she exfoliating gloves. I got onto these bad boys straight after that and have been enjoying the same smooth sensation. Even though I want to use it every single day, I’ve been told that it may be a little too harsh on the skin and to limit my use to once a week.

Lip stain/balm: I love Revlon’s lip stains, balms and lip butters because they don’t leave my lips feeling sticky and heavy like other products so when Target had 40% off all Revlon items I bought 3 of the new lacquer and matte Colorburst range. I’m trying to be extra mindful of the household budget these days so I’ve chosen to purchase these Revlon balms over the Clinique Chubby balms and Tarte Pure Delights. Revlon’s Colorburst balms are easy to apply and leave my lips feeling soft and moisturised. And now with the extended range of lacquer and matte options there are so many more shades to choose from. Check out my Instagram (@jacqfruit) to see the other shades I bought 🙂

Hair ties: I was super excited when I won a Lady Jane gift pack on Instagram a couple of months ago and from the pile of products I received I have been using Lady Jane’s metal ponytails never every day! Totally crushing on how cute they look not only as a hair tie but also as an accessory on my wrist!

Face moisturiser and exfoliant: I was searching for a new face moisturiser to try for a while and it was just fate when I ended up with a gig for a fresh, new brand called Brown Skin Secrets by Skin Naturale. After receiving a few little sample pots I was hooked. Ever since then I have been buying the Balancing Moisturiser and more recently the Pink Clay exfoliant and using them as part of my daily skincare routine. I have combination skin and also have eczema so I love how Brown Skin Secrets uses all natural ingredients (see here) from green tea, rosehip oil, aloe vera and cucumber extract to avocado, sweet almond and manuka honey – it sounds almost good enough to spread on my morning toast and eat for brekkie! The scent is mild and pleasant and after using this product for a few months my pores appear smaller and my face feels soft, smooth and hydrated. Founder Lynn Ross is an inspiration with her research and development of this unique product –  this is a skincare range borne of pure passion and commitment to finding and embracing natural beauty with natural products. If you want radiant and healthy skin, then check out the new Brown Skin Secrets range online here or at a reputable day spa near you. Late night shopping at Target

With the hubby and bubby in bed so early, I quickly snuck off to take advantage of the 20% off baby sale at Target and use my Target gift card from the other day’s goodie bag! Being around 8.50pm it was shopping bliss! I was there with a shopping list in hand as I can get distracted very easily.

I always do a little happy dance when I scan the price of something and it comes in lower than the sale sticker. In this case it was a couple of plain boys’ tops that scanned in at $1! Score! I bought a heap of Bonds pieces for Baby D as I love using Bonds pieces to style his comfy outfits. I also thought I’d spring clean up our room with some new bedsheets. Oh and I also bought mascara for $4.50 but I forgot to include it in the pics below.

What are some of the things you love to shop for at Target?

Target Style Ambassador Gok Wan at The Point Albert Park
Aquatic Drive, Albert Park Lake

The first week of spring in Melbourne is here and I started it off by having a drink or two at a The Point situated on the iconic Albert Park lake. With the sun shining and sailboats gliding across the water I was thrilled to be spending the afternoon with fellow bloggers and Target’s bold and beautiful style ambassador Gok Wan.

Gok has had a highly successful series of tv shows, a fabulous cookbook and many other achievements including filming documentaries like “Too Fat, Too Young” to increase awareness of a range of issues in our society. It’s so great to see Target teaming up with such a positive and vibrant personality.

Target on trend

During the event we were taken through the new lines for Target’s Hot Options, Free Fusion and MAXX by Target’s buyers and designers. You’d be pleased to hear that within the coming months whilst still providing awesome bargains and great quality pieces, Target will be focusing on providing us with more fashion driven, on-trend pieces straight from the catwalk. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. This iconic, Australian department store will truly be the place where everyone person who walks in will walk away with a must-have!

Gok’s Top 5 Must-Haves

Speaking of must-haves, Gok described his top 5 as:

1) straight leg indigo jeans with a slight lean to western
2) a classic twill, good quality white shirt
3) a good pair of flats
4) a disconnected, deconstructed type blazer that you can dress up or down depending on the occasion and,
5) a good pair of 7/8’s i.e. between a capri and cigarette type bottom

I loved how Gok put so much detail and description into every topic he spoke about. This guy knows his stuff. Having achieved so much and being so good at what he does, I think for many, Gok is most well-known as the person that allows people to see their body in a more positive light, helping build their confidence in their self image. What a perfect ambassador for Target! I am so thrilled I had the chance to spend the afternoon with him. Next blog post will be my shopping haul so stay tuned! Meanwhile below are some of my picks from Target’s online store based on Gok’s must-haves – can you tell that I love black and white?

Wednesday’s OOTD

OOTD 20 12 12ootd 201212Target onesie, Target baby shoes, thrifted mittens, Chicago Bulls baby cap – a present from grandma

Lately we have had a few catch ups with other baby friends and the weather has been quite hot! So baby lived in short sleeved onesies for the most part of the week 🙂 This onesie is size 00 which I thought would be way too big for baby but it seemed to fit ok even though he’s nowhere near the 3-6 month old mark! The cap is from the Philippines from grandma and it is nice and soft for baby’s head and he’s starting to fit it better now 🙂 So cute!
